English Pronunciation

• voiceless sounds are produced with the glottis open 
• the vocal cords are separated
• airflow is free 
• there is no vibration of the vocal cords
• voiceless sounds use more energy

All vowels are voiced sounds.

Consonants can be made with or without the voice.

According to the action of the vocal cords, English speech sounds are classified into two classes: voiced & voiceless.

• Voiced: the vocal cords are in vibration
• Voiceless: the vocal cords are not in vibration

Not all English consonants are found in pairs		all have voice
But voiceless		are not normal English sounds.
