Style
Good writing style is easy to recognize but difficult to
define. What follows is selective.
There is information on the following language devices:
noun phrases,
acronyms
leaving out words (ellipsis)
using 'there' as subject
Context is more important than many second
language users realize. So:
Specify the context: If you are
writing about a technical subject, you can say 'technically speaking'.
On the other hand, if you are making a general point, that's OK. Just make it clear:
General statements summarize your
evidence or arguments. For example, 'basically' or 'basically speaking'.
Style can also involve the way in which you structure or argue your case and is closely linked to tone.
