Assertion, Qualification
Another common way to continue a paragraph, is to qualify your opening sentence assertion in some way. In such cases it is common to use linking devices between first and second sentences. See also conceding a point.
In the following examples the assertion is in blue, the qualification in red.
| Anyone looking at the data would have to agree that lean production is a technique that is exportable across borders. But there might be important cultural factors that could limit its success in certain countries. |
