Can you see what is wrong with these examples? (Be sure to check their context using the hyperlink). Look up the same phrase in any of the files which were not written by students (eg the Brown corpus). How many examples can you find? Why? (Clue: look up the phrase "this is because").

Task 6: Using Text-to-Speech

Try out some of the TTS functions with the Test Page at http://www.edict.com.hk/TextToSpeech/TTStest.htm. You can reach this from Text-to-Speech home page (click the image on the VLC home page). Type in some text and choose a speech engine to hear what it sounds like. Listen to some of the sample dialogs created with the speech engines, including the Microsoft Agent dialogs. Try sending an TTS email message to a friend (http://www.edict.com.hk/vlc/texttospeech/ttsmessage.htm).

You can also hear the TTS file generated for any of the Net Dictionary entries or Web Concordancer search words.
