How to use Site Search

The Site Search Index keeps a record of all documents stored on the website. You can get a quick idea of what is available by searching for a particular topic, text or phrase. However, not all words are listed in the index, and words such as articles, prepositions and pronouns are ignored in the index. So if you want to find documents about the use of 'the' or 'a' you should search for articles rather than directly typing these words into the search box.
You can see a list of these ignored words in the Exception Word List.

The Site Search Index is a useful guide to what can be found here, but it should not be used as if it was a navigation table of contents. Although the files can be accessed and loaded in a new window, in many cases documents need to be loaded in frames together with other associated documents. If these partner documents are missing, the displayed document may not be able to function properly.
Use the search index to get information on what is here, and to get a quick view of documents, then navigate via the proper menus when you have found something you want to work with.

To get an idea of how you can use the Site Search Index to find materials you are interested in try searching for the following terms (these have been linked directly to the search index so you just need to click on them):

verbs, articles, tenses, Sherlock Holmes, Casablanca, idioms, listening, Bear Garden, Mind Your Grammar, Baby Love

To perform a search type the words you wish to search for in the text box on the left and the search results will appear here.
