First select Create New Concgrams List (automated) >>Using all the words in a text from the Concgrams Menu. You will be prompted to select from the Concgram Preferences Dialog if you wish to modify the size of the lists created. For example, more than half of all searches will result in only one match being found. If you wish these single instances can be discarded, and the resulting list is more manageable. Words such as THE, OF, TO, AND etc occur very frequently and can be studied independently, but can be listed in an Exclusion List.
For a more detailed explanation of these functions for reducing the size of the lists see the notes for the Concgram Preferences Dialog.
Step 1
There are 2 stages in creating an initial automated concgram list. The first step is for the program to make a list of Unique Words in the text, as shown in Figure 8. A word may be used many times in a text ("and" for example), but it will be counted only once in the list of unique words.

Step 2
Next the program uses the list of unique words which it generated to make a search of the whole text for each word in the list, as shown in Figure 9. These searches will create the initial 2-word Concgram List.

For each concordance string resulting from the search, a new list of Associated Words is generated and displayed in the list box for 2-word Concgrams.
The example below shows the results displayed in the list box.

Once you have created this first list, you can either generate an individual 2-word concgram search by selecting any item from the list and pressing the Show Concgram button, or else you can generate a completely new list from all the items in the list box by selecting the 3-word Concgrams button.
Note that the numbers shown in the Instances column give the number of occurrences of the Associated Word with the origin. This may not be the same as the number found in the concgram searches, which will depend on repeats of both associated word and origin word(s). Nevertheless, these numbers will give an idea of how many searches will be found.

Creating a 3-word Concgrams List
The 3-word Concgram List is created by pressing the 3-word Concgrams button in the 2-word Concgram list dialog, which then performs an automated Concgram Search on every pair of words generated by the initial search.

Figure 12 shows the search string as the Single Origin with the Associated Word given in parenthesis following it.
For each string searched all the Associated Words are subsequently displayed in the 3-word Concgram List Box as shown in Figure 13 below:

Double Origins and Associated Words are listed, and an individual 3-word Concgram search (Double Origin + Associated Word) can be performed by selecting any item from the list and pressing the Show Concgram button.

You can then generate a completely new list from all the items in the list box by selecting the 4-word Concgrams button.
