MagicMarking is a marking system devised by Hilary Bower where the teacher inserts appropriate comments in the students text. Students submit texts in Microsoft Word documents for review, and their texts will be "marked" by highlighting particular parts which need to be improved and inserting comments.

2. Teacher corrects work, using microsoft word to insert instructive/corrective comments, awards provisional grade then returns work to student |

1. Student electronically submits word-processed first draft of written work eg. by email or on floppy disk (or uploading to the MagicMarking server) |

Comments are added by the built in MS Word operations, and can be stored in the AutoCorrect list and inserted using shortcuts.
The comments used at present were mostly supplied by Hilary. Teachers using the system can also add and customize their own comments.
