Windows Vista

You do not need to download anything as at present only SAPI 5.3 works on Vista and Microsoft Agent is already installed. MS Agent does not use SAPI 4 on Vista, and SAPI 4 does not work.  SAPI 5.3 works fine for the TTS Browser for SAPI 5 ('Microsoft Anna') but you should read the notes provided. You can download the other MS Agent characters for Peedy, Genie and Robby, but they will all use the default voice that comes with Windows Vista or if you have installed a SAPI 5.3 male voice they will use that.

	Download and install the additional Microsoft Agent characters.
	- Genie
	- Peedy
	- Robby

Other Windows Operating Systems

If you are using another of the Windows operating systems developed prior to Vista this applies.

You can download all the software you need from the Microsoft Agent Character Downloads page.  You can also get the software by following the steps below.

Installing the files on your PC.

Make sure you follow these steps to install MS Agent properly. It will take some time to download these files, and you should note that there are 4 characters provided by Microsoft, and each one has to be downloaded and installed separately. 

• The installation procedure depends on which version of Windows you are using. Follow the steps listed below according to what operating system you are using.
• If you have Windows 2000 or Windows XP OS you don't need to install the Agent core files as they are already included in the OS.
• If you have Windows XP OS you need to install the Agent SAPI 4 files in Step 1.

Windows XP 

1.		Download and install SAPI 4
2.		Download and install the speech engine  (Lernout & Hauspie TruVoice)
3.		Download and install the Microsoft Agent characters.
		- Genie
		- Merlin
		- Peedy
		- Robby

Windows 2000

1.		Download and install the speech engine  (Lernout & Hauspie TruVoice)
2.		Download and install the Microsoft Agent characters.
		- Genie
		- Merlin
		- Peedy
		- Robby

Windows 95 / 98 / ME

1.		First download and install the Agent Core files (Windows 95 / 98/ ME only)
2.		Download and install the speech engine  (Lernout & Hauspie TruVoice)
3.		Download and install the Microsoft Agent characters.

		- Merlin
		- Peedy
		- Robby
4.		Download and install the Speech Control Panel (Windows 95 / 98 / ME only)

For Windows 95 / 98 / ME only

When you have completed these steps and rebooted your computer open the Control Panel ("Settings" in the Start menu) and select the "Speech" icon which has now been installed. This will show if the speech engine has been installed correctly. You should see a dialog like this:
